Traitors

Traitors - is a prototype developed for the unit "Computer Game Design" during second year University. Its aims were an intensive studio focussed assessment where games had to be developed within a week. To encourage rapid prototyping off a prompt for a weekly theme or mechanical constraint.

The game follows a puzzle zelda like style theme where the main player is trapped in a maze. Its view is bound to the walls of the maze and uses 2D sprite animation for movement. Upon traversing the maze, the player comes across AI which stops in its tracks once being interacted with. Sign posts point the user where to go. Eventually the player reaches the traitor NPC which teleports to different vector 3 positions in world space and leads the player to a trap. The player can press space to activate its shield and escape the monster.

A rapid prototype is lots of trial and error. The key importance was to ensure the character felt immersed with their decisions and had a quick start to end scenario. The game could be made to funnel the player into the trap by having light fade out and immobilizing the players movement when accepting the prompt to follow the traitor. They could then use a path finding algorithm to traverse and walk through different locations in the maze.
